About the Artist

Living on a farm, I feel a special relationship with the clay. I am especially drawn to the rough torn edges that contradict the smoothed flat surfaces, much like a freshly worked field pulls me into its space to pick up a handful of soil to feel its texture. Within my works I incorporate farming properties and the kinship it has with nature (i.e. water, sun, pollination, seeds, droughts, floods, seasons, tilled soils, planting, harvest, as well as grain storage.) (Each element may not always be represented in each work of art.) I also love to add rusted pieces of metal that I find around on the farm to the sculptures. When I discover them, I find them much more interesting since they were altered by the weather than if they were shiny and new.

Within the last few years, I have also enjoyed working in collages on a 2-D scale, and I still try to portray these qualities of rough versus smooth, seasons, plants, suns, etc.

My artistic expression has evolved over the years with some natural changes occurring. I have become more aware of what my inner self is feeling and witnessing every day. With my art, I am trying to reach in and pull it out of my heart and express it in a tangible way so others can also share the deep love and respect for farming and its' harmony with nature.
